Annie chalex Boyle

A dynamic performer and devoted educator, violinist Annie Chalex Boyle is recognized for her versatility, expressive depth, and dedication to traditional and contemporary repertoire.  Her playing has been described by the Los Angeles Times and the Kalamazoo Gazette as "brilliant”, "eloquent and poignant", and "commanding".

As a recital and concerto soloist, she has performed internationally in the United States, England, Honduras, Brazil, Chile, Spain, and Italy.  Her vast repertoire ranges from concerti by Brahms, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, and Sibelius to contemporary works by Corigliano and Daugherty.  Recent performance highlights include The Red Violin Concerto with the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra and composer John Corigliano in residence, the Mendelssohn Double Concerto with Chamber Music Amarillo, and the Barber Violin Concerto and Piazzolla’s Las Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas at the Hamptons Music Festival.

Ms. Chalex Boyle is a prizewinner in multiple prestigious competitions, including the Seventeen Magazine/General Motors National Competition, the Irving M. Klein International String Competition, and the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, where she won the Grand Prize in the Junior Division.

A frequent guest at summer music festivals, she has performed at the Semanas Musicales de Frutillar in Chile, Orfeo Music Festival in Italy, Hot Springs Music Festival, Interlochen, and the Oregon Bach Festival, among many others.  Additionally, she served as the artistic director of the Lake City String Academy and the Quartz Mountain Chamber Music Program.

A dedicated chamber musician, Ms. Chalex Boyle has presented recitals and collaborative performances at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and London’s Royal Academy of Music.  For almost a decade she served as violinist of the Harrington String Quartet, the ensemble-in-residence at West Texas A&M University.  The quartet was on the touring rosters of Texas Commission on the Arts and Mid-America Arts Alliance and was also featured in the PBS television documentary A Sound Collaboration.  Along with numerous other commissions, the highly regarded recording of Daniel McCarthy’s complete string quartets was released by Albany Records.  Her performances have been featured on NPR’s Performance Today, and throughout Mexico and Chile, expanding her audience to national and international radio listeners. 

Her chamber music collaborations include performances with esteemed artists such as David Shifrin, Robert Levin, James Dunham, Arthur Rowe, Pepe Romero, James Dick, and members of the Pro Arte, Miro, and Cavani Quartets.  She was also a member of the Southwest String Quartet, in residence at the Huntington Library in Pasadena, CA.  During this time, she worked directly with leading contemporary composers such as Elliott Carter, Oliver Knussen, and Stephen Hartke.  Her artistry and adventurous programming reflect a lifelong commitment to musical exploration and collaboration, especially with her work with XTET (Los Angeles) and Pentacle (New York).  She currently performs with Duo X alongside pianist David Palmer, with recent performances in Texas, New York, and Mexico. 

In addition to her performance career, Ms. Chalex Boyle is widely recognized as a distinguished pedagogue.  Her students have earned national and international honors, including prizes such as the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award, American String Teachers Association Solo Competition, Walgreens National Competition, Music Teachers National Association Competition, Enkor International Music Competition, and the Texas Music Teachers Association.  Her students have secured tenure-track teaching positions and professional orchestral appointments.

In 2023, Ms. Chalex Boyle was named the Texas American String Teachers Association’s Phyllis Young Studio Teacher of the Year, and in 2025 she was honored as Lubbock YWCA Woman of the Year. 

Ms. Chalex Boyle holds a Master of Music in Violin Performance from The Juilliard School, where she studied with Robert Mann and Felix Galimir, and a Bachelor of Music (cum laude) from the University of Southern California, where she studied with Robert Lipsett.  Born in Arlington Heights, Illinois, Ms. Chalex Boyle began her violin studies with the Suzuki program at Music for Youth, studying with Donna Cook.  She later trained at the Music Center of the North Shore (now the Chicago Music Institute) under the legendary team of Almita and Roland Vamos.

Supporting her goal of outreach and engaged scholarship, Ms. Chalex Boyle actively works as a member of the American String Teacher Association and Texas Tech Teaching Academy, participating in year-long programs supporting other faculty members.  She was also chosen to be a part of the 2023 Texas Tech Faculty Fellows Mentoring Program in Engaged Scholarship.  She has helped connect classical music with the mainstream media through her work on two national television commercials: one for Saturn Autos in the 1990s, and another for the Texas Tech University Red Raiders Football National Commercial in 2025.  She has recorded for a variety of pop artists, television shows, and movie productions, and she has made an appearance on The Jay Leno Show.

Annie Chalex Boyle continues to be a passionate advocate for the transformative power of music as performer, educator, and mentor.  Her ongoing work reflects a commitment to nurturing the next generation of musicians while fostering artistic excellence and community engagement through performance and education.  Annie Chalex Boyle is a Professor of Violin at Texas Tech University, where she has served on the faculty since 2011.  She performs on an Andrea Guarneri violin from 1652.
