Program:

Fratres for Violin and Piano………………………………………………………….Arvo Pärt

Nocturne…………………………………………………………………………….Kathryn Mishell

Estaciones Porteñas, Movements II and III…………………………………………..Astor Piazzolla

Piano Trio in C minor, Op. 101……………………………………………………..Johannes Brahms

From 2011 to 2018, Pärt was the most performed living composer in the world, and the second most performed in 2019. Fratres is one of his most beloved pieces.

Kathryn Mishell wrote Nocturne for her husband, Robert Rudié, “for no particular reason,” in 2002. It opens with a 7-tone row, and then plays with that material in an utterly romantic, non-serial way.

Piazzolla’s Estaciones will make you want to get up and dance!

The Brahms c minor Trio is the apotheosis of the romantic piano trio. It encompasses grand statements of joyous strength and hushed eerie wisps of delight. There is unmatched intimacy in the slow movement, and unbounded energy and joy in the final movement.
